Garden View Mennonite Church (Halstead, Kansas, USA)
The Garden View Mennonite Church north of Halstead and west of Newton, Kansas, USA was established in 1971. The congregation started when the Meridian congregation near Hesston had grown to point that it felt best to divide into two congregations. The former Garden Valley School was available for purchase in late 1970; worship services began in the renovated school on 21 March 1971. Some members of the Grace Mennonite Church in Halstead also came to the new congregation.
Initially, pastoral leadership came from the Meridian congregation, but soon Milferd Wenger from Meridian and Arnold Wiggers from Grace became Garden View's pastors.
On 13 May 1974, the church was severely damaged by a tornado but was restored. On 13 March 1990 another tornado destroyed two members' farms and damaged the farms of four others. Fortunately, no lives were lost.
The Garden View Christian School began in the church building in 1987. Soon a separate school building was constructed.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Larry Koehn and Merle Wenger.
