Elkwater Hutterite Colony in Irvine, Alberta, was founded in 1979 as a division from the Spring Creek Hutterite Colony.

A daughter colony of the Elkwater Hutterite Colony is the Murray Lake Hutterite Colony (Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada).

In 2017 the Elkwater Hutterite Colony was a Dariusleut colony.
