El Trebol (Durango, Mexico)

El Trebol was the third settlement effort by Mennonite refugees who fled from Russia and landed in Mexico. El Trebol was located in the state of Durango on a tract of land east of the Old Colony Mennonite village of Grünfeld. Twenty-four families moved from Irapuato after that effort failed. These families, not all of one branch of Mennonites, struggled for three or four years to eke out an existence but finally gave up. Some of the families moved to Cuauhtémoc in the state of Chihuahua, others moved to Canada, and one or two married into the Old Colony group. Today all evidence of a former settlement has disappeared.
