Okolona Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Okolona, Mississippi, USA)
The Okolona Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation near Okolona, Mississippi, USA was established in 1975 as the Egypt Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The congregation started when families began to move to the area in 1973. For a time, they met with families located near West Point, Mississippi, about 25 miles further south.
Initially, the families met in homes and then rented a large house near Aberdeen where the Okolona and West Point families met together. In 1974 they began to rent the American Legion Hall in West Point. In June 1975, the two groups decided to separate, and the Okolona group was organized as a congregation on 3 July 1975. The land was located close to Egypt, six miles south of Okolona, so the church took that name. It changed the name to Okolona in 1999. The first service in the new building took place on 14 September 1975.
The Egypt Mennonite School began in 1975 in the church building; a separate building was completed in 1978 and expanded in 1988.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Ron Jantz, Jeff Jantz, and Todd Becker.
