Eelke (d. 1549)
Eelke (Fouckensz, Foekes), an Anabaptist martyr, a preacher though he was not yet baptized, was captured with a fellow believer named Fye at Boorn (Oldeboorn in the Dutch province of Friesland) and beheaded at Leeuwarden in 1549 three weeks before Easter. A hymn was written on their death which begins, "Nae u belooft, O goede Heer, wilt troost van bouen senden" (According to Thy promise, gracious Lord, Thou wilt send comfort from above), and published in Het Offer des Heeren.
