Eekens, Dominicus (1682-1732)

Dominicus Eekens (Ekens), born 1682 at Dokkum, Dutch province of Friesland, died 11 July 1732 at Amsterdam, a Dutch Mennonite minister, was trained 1699-1705 for the ministry by the Amsterdam preacher Galenus Abrahamsz, and served the congregation of Amsterdam in 1710-1713 as preacher and from 1713 until his death as an elder. He is said to have been a very modest man, whose sincere messages were of great blessing to the congregation. He did not leave behind any publications. He was married to Margaretha de Flines, of an old Flemish family. His colleague B. van Leuvenig delivered his funeral sermon, Lykrede op Dominicus Eekens, published at Amsterdam in 1732.
