Durham Mennonite Brethren Church (Durham, Kansas, USA)
Durham Mennonite Brethren Church, now extinct, was located six miles (10 km) northwest of Durham, Marion County, Kansas, a member of the Southern District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. It was organized on 29 December 1906 by a few families who had remained there after an unsuccessful attempt in 1885-1890 to establish a church, known as the "Mennonite Brethren Group North of Lehigh." Jacob Kliewer and Henry Bergthold had served the earlier congregation as ministers. Because of poor soil and high land prices, the group broke up. The remaining families elected John A. Nickel as leader, who was succeeded by Abraham Pankratz at the time of the organization as a church in 1906. New families moved in and the membership of the church in 1911 was approximately 34. In 1934 the church was discontinued when members continued to move to neighboring Mennonite Brethren communities and to Texas and Oklahoma.
