Leopold Dick, a jurist in the Imperial Court of Chancery in Speyer, was the author of a booklet of 84 pages in Latin against the Anabaptists, Adversus impios Anabaptistarum errores, longe omnium pestillentissimos, Leopoldi Dickii LL. Doctoris, Sacri Romani imperialis Consistorii ab advocationibus et procuratoris, juditium, Roman. III. Omnes enim peccaverunt et egent gloria Dei. Hagenoae apud Johan. Sec. Anno MDXXX Mense Martio (Hagenau, 1530). It presents in very diffuse form under the guise of great learning the Catholic doctrine of baptism, that its administration to infants at a very early age is necessary for their salvation because of original sin, and its repetition is blasphemy. As proof he offers besides the Bible, from which he makes special reference to circumcision, quotations from the Church Fathers and even refers to classical non-Christian authors. The booklet is of little factual value. Nor is its value increased by calling the Anabaptists all sorts of names and advocating the death penalty on the basis of Old Testament and history in general.
