Amos Daniel Maurice Dick (1894-1979), was born in Mechanicsburg, PA. His father, John Dick, was a minister in the Brethren in Christ Church. In 1916 Amos Dick married Nellie Sider of Wainfleet, ON, a daughter of Brethren in Christ bishop John Sider. After Amos was ordained a minister in 1918, the couple left for India where they served as missionaries for 45 years. Amos was superintendent of the Brethren in Christ Mission in Bihar. Under his leadership, men and women were trained for Christian service and developed evangelistic outreach to the villages. He was a self-taught man, very well read in the Bible, the Indian holy books, and the classics. His easy facility with languages (Hindi, Nepali, Bengali, Urdu, and Sanskrit) enabled him to communicate with well-educated Indians as well as with villagers. In 1952 the Dicks moved to Ulubaria, West Bengal, where Amos served as superintendent for 10 years with Churches of God Mission. He served on the faculty of the Calcutta Bible College, 1953-1962.

The Dicks returned in 1962 to the Unites States, where Amos was pastor of the Silverdale Brethren in Christ Church, Silverdale, PA, until 1970.
