Though Deaf Community Christian Church officially began on Easter Sunday, 3 April 1994, it had its beginnings earlier in the hearts of a group of deaf Christians in the fall of 1993. They met together and discussed creating a new church which would go beyond the “deaf ministries” many of them had been a part of in “hearing” churches. So with 18 charter members and Rudy Unger, as the founding pastor, Deaf Community Church began. They worship in American Sign Language (ASL) but translation for the “signing impaired” is available via wireless receivers.

Though the church began with financial assistance from the B.C. Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, by 1995 they were financially independent, during which time they met at Willingdon Church. In 2001 the congregation met at Royal Oak Community Church, 7175 Royal Oak Ave. & Victory St. in Burnaby, 1/2 block south of the Royal Oak Skytrain Station, but by 2003 they had been meeting in the gym at New Hope Christian Church in Delta.
