Cartwright Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Cartwright, Manitoba, Canada)
The Cartwright Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation in Cartwright, Manitoba, Canada was established in 1958 when families from the Greenland congregation moved to the Cartwright-Mather area. They were farmers who also did some carpentry work.
The congregation formally organized in spring 1958. In 1961 it bought a schoolhouse and moved it to a central location three miles east and one mile south of Cartwright. Visiting ministers provided services once a month until 1968. In spring 1968 Abe Penner and family were invited to provide ministerial leadership and moved to the area.
The congregation grew slowly until 1977 when more families began to move to the area. In 1978 the congregation built a new church building located one mile north of Cartwright and 1/2 mile west. It was dedicated in June 1979. A new sanctuary and cloakrooms were added in 1997.
In 1977 the congregation began the Rock Lake School. It initially met in a vacant school building, then moved to the basement of the church. In 1993 a new school building adjacent to the church was completed.
In 2019 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Linley Doerksen, Randell Reimer, and Orville Friesen.
