Brundage, Daniel (1812-1895)
Daniel Brundage, born 16 February 1812 in York County, Ontario, died 14 December 1895 in Elkhart County, Indiana, was a pioneer bishop of the Mennonite Church in Kansas. He joined the Mennonite Church as age 15; in 1836 he married Mary Gayman (Gehman)(21 September 1813-21 January 1876). They had nine children. He was ordained as a minister in York County in 1845. After some personal financial difficulties he was set back from ministry.
In 1858 the family moved to Elkhart County, Indiana. Here he settled his financial difficulties and was restored to full fellowship as a minister. In 1868 the family moved to Missouri, where he was ordained bishop of the Bethel congregation near Tipton, Moniteau County on 28 May 1870. After a tornado destroyed his buildings and personal property in 1872, he moved to Kansas the next year and settled in McPherson County, where he organized the Spring Valley congregation. During the years 1873-1881 (?) and 1887-1889, he served the Kansas congregations as bishop, traveling in his two wheeled springless cart to one of the four churches in his circuit each Sunday. After the death of his wife, he married Mary Beutler (12 September 1831-12 November 1896) on 2 January 1877. He was known as "Old Faithful Bishop Brundage." In 1889 he discontinued his services and he and his wife moved to Elkhart County, Indiana, where he retired and they both died.
