Bronx Spanish Mennonite Church (Bronx, New York, USA)
The Bronx Spanish Mennonite Church began in 1964 as an outreach of Primera Iglesia Menonita de Brooklyn. Guillermo Torres and Gladys Widmer held the first services in the home of Miguel and Rosa Santiago in October 1964. In December 1964 the new group began renting space in the Melrose Reformed Church at the corner of Elton Avenue and East 156th Street. The outreach was to Puerto Ricans who had moved into the Bronx.
The congregation formally organized on 21 September 1965. In spring 1967, the congregation was able to purchase an apartment house formerly owned by the Salvation Army at the corner of East 160th Street and Elton Avenue. It provided a chapel and an apartment for the pastor.
In 1979 it appears the pastor, José Feliz, tried to reorient the group under the name Revival Temple. This did not succeed and Feliz moved away by 1981.
A period of lay leadership by Angel Ortiz followed until in late 1986 the group merged with the Morris Heights Mennonite Church to form the Iglesia Evangelica Menonita Eben-Ezer.
