He was ordained as a minister in Schoeneberg, Chortitza on 2 October 1824, and ordained as Ältester in Bergthal on 25 August 1840. He was succeeded by Gerhard Wiebe who led the total Bergthal Mennonite group to America. As a minister Braun had 300 funerals, 150 weddings, 60 communion services, baptized 797 members, and preached 900 sermons.
