A family name of Swiss origin, Boshart has been found among the (old) Mennonites and primarily among the Amish Mennonites of the United States and Canada. The Bosharts have lived in Ontario, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, and other states. As of 1955, the Buscherts were found principally in Ontario, while the Buzzards lived chiefly in Indiana and also in Pennsylvania. These Buzzards are believed to be the descendants of George and Rachel Buzzard who lived in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, in the latter part of the 18th century. A Palatine Mennonite census list of 1706 names a Bossert family living in Mannheim.
