Board of Publications (Mennonite Brethren Church of North America)
The Board of Publications (originally the Publication Committee) of the Mennonite Brethren Conference was called into being at the 1884 General Conference sessions when a committee of three was elected to (1) work toward a written history of the brotherhood; (2) arrange to have the conference reports printed; and (3) establish a periodical for the denomination. Largely through the efforts of this committee, the Zionsbote, Conference Year books, Sunday-school material, and other literature as well as the Mennonite Brethren Publishing House were brought into being. From its inception until 1936, the committee consisted of three to five members. In 1936-51 it consisted of five members, and since that time seven members. Since the establishment of the conference publishing house in 1904 the major effort of the committee has been the operation of this enterprise on a sound financial basis. Since 1954 this committee has been known as the Board of Publications.
