The Bloomfield, Iowa Old Order Amish settlement began in 1971 when three brothers, David Yutzy, Henry Yutzy and Norman Yutzy, moved to Bloomfield from Hazelton, [[Iowa (USA)|Iowa]]. Until 1975, church services, baptisms and communion services were supplied by leaders from the nearby [[Kalona Old Order Amish Settlement (Kalona, Iowa, USA)|Kalona Old Order Amish settlement]].

The Bloomfield settlement extends west from Bloomfield to beyond the hamlet of West Grove, and beyond Drakesville to the north.

Bishop George Gingerich moved to Bloomfield from Kokomo, [[Indiana (USA)|Indiana]] in 1975. Henry Hochstedler was the first locally ordained minister in 1975. He became bishop in 1981.

Bloomfield has been a rapidly growing settlement; by 2015 it was composed of 10 church districts with a total of about 267 families.
