Blaupot family
Blaupot, a Dutch family, first residing in Appingedam, province of Groningen, later also in Norden, East Friesland, Germany, and other places. As early as 1660 Harmen Gerritsz Blaupot was found in Amsterdam, a member and deacon of the Lamist congregation as many of his descendants were also. Uko Blaupot, of Norden, was appointed ministerial candidate at the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary in 1733, but it is not known if he ever served a congregation. Of the Appingedam branch mention should be made of Grietje Jans Blaupot, who in 1694 gave her house to the congregation to serve as a meetinghouse, and Jan Symons Blaupot, d. 1756, a well-to-do merchant, who from 1707 for more than 50 years was a minister of the congregation. His granddaughter Hester Blaupot was married to Izaak ten Cate, the Mennonite preacher of Noordbroek, and became the mother of the well-known Dutch Mennonite historian Steven Blaupot ten Cate.
