Gerrit Blaauw, preacher of the Frisian Mennonite congregation at Wormerveer, 1727-1780, an "experienced and intelligent research scholar in the privileges and customs of the Dutch Mennonites" (Samuel Muller), in 1765 published Brief an den Heer . . . beheizende een antwoord op drie fragen, . . . in which he urged the Mennonites, as loyal citizens to fulfill their duty to their country, and defended the rights of the Mennonites. In 1772 he wrote Ontwerp tot meerdere aanweeking van leeraren, which booklet he sent to the congregations. He was led to write this book by the great recession of the Dutch Mennonite congregations, which he attributed to the inadequate education of their ministers. He also published some sermons.
