Heinrich Ludolf Benthem, a Lutheran divine, born 2 November 1661, at Celle in [[Hannover (Niedersachsen, Germany)|Hannover]], died 9 July 1723 as consistorial councilor in Harburg. He was the author of <em>Holländischer Kirch- und Schulenstaat</em> (Frankfurt, 1698), the 19th chapter of which dealt with "[[Anabaptism|Anabaptists]] and Socinians," giving an interesting description of the Dutch Mennonites of his time. He was the author of Holländischer Kirch- und Schulenstaat (Frankfurt, 1698), the 19th chapter of which dealt with "Anabaptists and Socinians," giving an interesting description of the Dutch Mennonites of his time. Especially noteworthy were his impressions of Galenus Abrahamsz de Haan, derived from personal association. The chapter ended with the complete Dordrecht Confession.
