Artisan Church formally joined the British Columbia (BC) Conference of Mennonite Brethren (MB) Churches in May 2010. Artisan began as a church planting initiative of the BC MB Conference. Monthly services were held beginning in fall 2009 with Nelson and Terri Boschman providing leadership. Their focus was to develop and nurture relationships among musicians, artists and other creative people living and working in downtown Vancouver.

In 2015 the congregation had 47 members and an average weekly attendance of 300 at two locations -- the Downtown Parish and the Mount Pleasant Parish.

In early 2021 the congregation approved a "Milestone" statement that included commitments to welcome those who identify as LGBTQ+ and to celebrate and perform gay marriages. Artisan requested the withdrawal of their membership in the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, and this was approved by delegates on 1 May 2021.
