Arends is a Dutch Mennonite family that lived at Drachten, Friesland, since the 17th century. Arend Tjeers was a preacher of the Drachten congregation 1772-89, as were his sons Sybolt Arends 1780?-1808 and Tjalling Arends 1789-1805. Some members of this family adopted the family name of Arends and others Frieswijk.
