Apostool family

Apostool is a Mennonite family that stems from Flanders. In 1581 Jacob Apostool, a Mennonite, the son of Francois Apostool and Margarete Salme, came to Haarlem with his wife Maaijken Drijvers (a daughter of Andries Drijvers of Meenen). In 1583 a son, Jacob Francois, was born to them. He married Catelijntje van Steenkiste, a native of Nieuwkerk (or Nipkerke) in Flanders. Some of the outstanding members of the Apostool family were: Samuel Apostool; Andries Apostool, who was chosen deacon of the Zonist congregation in Amsterdam in 1675; Pieter Apostool; Andries Apostool; Pieter Apostool, who was three times chosen deacon of the Zonist congregation in Amsterdam, in 1705, 1714, and 1724.
