This song, translated as A Song about Seventy-two Friends Put to Death in Antwerp between the Years [15] 55 and [15] 60)  appears in the Liedtboecxken van den Offer des Heeren as No. 16 and begins with the lines: "Aenhoort Godt hemelsche Vader, Ons clagen in deser tijt" (O God, heavenly Father, Hear our pleadings in this time).

Concerning the 72 martyrs referred to here, see Genard, Antwerpsch Archievenblad XIV, 20. In this source most of them are named in reference to their places of birth; the song itself mentions their trades. The song was composed in 1560, and was already included in the second songbook (Een nieuNieu LiedenboeckLiedenboeck) of 1562. This song is also mentioned by Wolkan.
