Alexanderkrone was a village in the southwest part of the Mennonite settlement on the Molotschna, on the left bank of the Yushanlee River, province Taurida, 65 miles (110 km) northwest of Berdyansk. It was one of the latest villages of the Halbstadt district, founded in 1857. In 1913 it numbered 550 inhabitants, who were mostly engaged in agriculture. To the village belonged some 8,500 acres of land. The soil was fertile, but not suitable for winter wheat. Besides an elementary school, in which two teachers taught sixty children (in 1913), there was in Alexanderkrone after 1906 a three-class Russian business school with about ninety students. The Alexanderkrone Mennonite Church had a church building from 1890 on. The village had a tile factory, a steam mill, and two windmills.
