Albany Park Mennonite Church (Chicago, Illinois, USA)
The Manor Community Church, Chicago, Illinois, USA began services in North Chicago in 1984 on Sunday evenings in a Baptist church. The church reflected the diversity of its neighborhood, where over 50 languages were spoken. Among the 35 people who attended were Hispanics, Anglos and African Americans, Mennonites, Catholics, and Lutherans.
Gary Martin served as the initial halftime pastor, with Ulli Klemm as a pastoral intern. The Illinois Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC) and the Central District Conference of the General Conference Mennonite Church provided financial support. The congregation formally organized on 26 August 1984.
During its brief life, the church provided sanctuary for undocumented Salvadorans, organized a community food pantry, ministered to youths involved in gang activity, and served as an urban training site for seminary students.
In 1987 the congregation changed its name to Albany Park Mennonite Church.
After its pastor resigned in October 1990, the congregation decided to close due to dwindling numbers and inadequate resources.
