L'Église Chrétienne Évangelique de New Richmond began services in 1981, and formally organized in 1984. The first building was occupied in 1983. Denis Tremblay, a graduate of Institut Biblique Laval, and his wife Lyne, are considered the founding leaders of the group. The congregation had its roots amongst a group of around 12 people that began meeting for fellowship in New Richmond in 1974. The group eventually asked for assistance from the Quebec Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (Association des Églises des frères mennonites du Québec) in 1980.

The congregation was located in eastern Quebec apart from the majority of Mennonite Brethren congregations in the province, which were located in and around Montreal. In 2002 the congregation left the Mennonite Brethren conference and joined L'Association d'Églises Baptistes Évangéliques au Québec. It became known as Église Chrétienne Évangelique Baptiste de New Richmond.
