Riesen, David (19th century)
David von Riesen, a member of the Mennonite congregation of Elbing-Ellerwald, West Prussia, Germany, was expelled from membership for serving in the army in the War of Liberation in 1815, and sought to be reinstated into this congregation or into the Danzig congregation by way of the courts, but after lengthy negotiations his suit was rejected by the royal court in Berlin on 24 January 1818. Riesen's fate was the basis of Ernst von Wildenbruch's drama Der Mennonit.
