Doornkaat Koolman, Jan ten (1850-1913)

Jan ten Doornkaat Koolman was born 12 November 1850 and died 29 November 1913. He was the nephew of Jan ten Doornkaat Koolman (b. 1815), president of the board of directors of the Doornkaat distillery and brewery, president of the civic assembly (1883-1896), city councilor (1895), and senator (1896). In the Mennonite church of his home town of Norden, he served for many years as deacon, and after 1909 as senior deacon. In his leisure he studied the treasures in the archives of Norden and the Mennonite church of Norden and the community. In 1903 he published Kurze Mitteilungen aus der Geschichte der Mennoniten-Gemeinden in Ostfriesland im allgemeinen und aus der Nordener Gemeinde im besonderen bis zum Jahre 1797. In 1904 appeared Mitteilungen aus der Geschichte der Mennoniten-Gemeinde zu Norden im 19. Jahrhundert. In addition he published Mitteilungen aus der Vergangenheit Nordens, two volumes (1908 and 1909).
