Goyen, Arnold (1699-1762)
Arnold Goyen (Gogen, Gojen, Goi), son of Gossen Goyen and a member of the Krefeld Mennonite Church, married Susanna von der Leyen. He was an intimate friend of Gerhard Tersteegen. The Krefeld church has 60 letters written by Tersteegen to Arnold Goyen which reveal the intimate relationship of Tersteegen to the Krefeld Mennonites and particularly to Goyen. Tersteegen visited the Mennonites of Krefeld, and the Goyen family visited Tersteegen in Mülheim. According to Nieper (p. 240), Tersteegen or W. Week furnished the inscription for Goyen's tombstone. The petition which the Krefeld Mennonites addressed to the King of Prussia regarding religious freedom dated 13 April 1737, bears, among others, Arnold Goyen's signature.
