Jan van Genck (van Ghenck, van Gink), an Anabaptist martyr, was executed at Amsterdam. This martyr is the same person as Jan van Ghenck Jr., who lived at Maastricht, Dutch province of Limburg, in 1528 and was fined there because he had some heretical books. Henric Rol stayed in his house in September 1534. At this time meetings of the newly founded congregation of Maastricht, as of heretics before, were held in his house and some times baptism was administered here. Jan van Genck seems to have been a deacon. By trade he was a shoemaker. At the end of 1534 or the beginning of 1535 Jan and his father, also called Jan, and a brother Frans, all with their wives, fled from Maastricht. Apparently they went to Amsterdam. Nothing further is known of the father or of Frans. Jan van Genck Jr. was arrested in February and beheaded on 6 March 1535 at Amsterdam, with a number of others, among whom was Hendrik Biesman, also from Maastricht.
