In August 2000 Mission Calgary, a joint venture of the Alberta Mennonite Brethren (MB) Conference and the Canadian MB Conference Board of Evangelism, began work in the Saddle Ridge area of north-east Calgary. Under the leadership of Grant Galpin, Saddle Ridge Community Church held its opening service on 14 October 2001 in the John XXIII School. The congregation's founding mission statement was “helping people encounter Jesus every day”. Six individuals were baptized at the congregation's first baptismal service in a pool at the Village Square Leisure Centre on 10 February 2002, and a charter service was held later that year on 24 March.

The congregation assisted in the planting of a Mennonite Brethren congregation in Airdrie, a bedroom community north of Calgary.

The congregation eventually changed its name to Well Side Community Church, and closed on 31 December 2009. Charles Koop served as pastor from 2006 until the church's closure.
