Vischer, Laux (16th century)
Laux Vischer, a potter, guildmaster of the carpenters in Augsburg, united with the Anabaptists and was taken prisoner, put in chains, and expelled from the city on 18 October 1527, together with Eitelhans Langenmantel, Endres Widholz, Gall Fischer, Peter Schleppach, Hans Kissling, and Ulrich Eckart. Vischer was also made to pay a fine, which was put into the alms fund. He is designated as "one of the chief adherents and promoters of Anabaptism." His son, the potter Laux Vischer, had likewise joined the Anabaptists and was baptized in the summer of 1527 by Jorg of Passau. Laux Vischer the younger was arrested in April 1528 and recanted. Also his mother Anna, who had been baptized by Salminger and recanted on 3 October 1527, was arrested in April 1528, put in irons, and expelled from the city.
