Berent Ratzlaff was born about 1660 and was the first known elder of the Przechovka Old Flemish Mennonite Church near Schwetz in Poland. He was the grandson of the first Ratzlaff in this church. His grandfather was a soldier in the Swedish war. After hearing about the Mennonite peace teachings, he thrust his sword into a post and joined the Mennonite Church. Berent Ratzlaff lived in the village of Przechovka.
