Elle Nannincxs Smit, an Anabaptist martyr of Winkel, Dutch province of North Holland, was sentenced to death by the Court of Holland and beheaded on 22 December 1540. He was apparently baptized in February 1534; he had taken part in the journey to Münster and was seized at Bergklooster. He did not ask for pardon, but remained steadfast.
