Eirene

Eirene (Greek word for "Peace"), the name of the service program for European conscientious objectors, similar to Pax for United States conscientious objectors, which was set up in 1957 by joint action of the Mennonite Central Committee and the Brethren Service Committee. Its first project was a unit located at Oulmes, Morocco, to work for local agricultural improvement. The administrative office was handled by the MCC at Kaiserslautern, Germany. The first unit consisted of five men—two French, two Dutch, and one American.
