Paling family
Paling (Palingh, Palinck, Paeldinck), a family name found among the Dutch Mennonites. Cornelis Michielsz Paling was about 1610 a member of the "bevredigde broederschap" at Haarlem. Lambrecht Paeldinck, a preacher or deacon at Schiedam, in 1632 signed the Dordrecht Confession in the name of the Schiedam Flemish congregation. Andries Palinck was a Waterlander preacher, probably at Haarlem. Another Andries Paling(h), who may also have been a Waterlander preacher at Haarlem, published Verhaal van't gene verhandelt ende besloten is in de by-eenkomst tot Leyden (Haarlem, 1661), a defense against the accusation of the conservative Flemish leaders that the Waterlanders were not orthodox. He also attacked Galenus Abrahamsz in Aenmerckingen en Aenspraeck op Doct. Gdenus Geschrift (Amsterdam, 1665).
It could not be decided whether the Dutch painters Izaak Paling (d. after 1719 at Leiden) and Willem Jan Paling (1777-1848) were Mennonites and members of this family.
