Mennonites first moved to Terrace, British Columbia in 1950 and joined together to worship regardless of denominational affiliation along with other evangelicals, forming the Terrace Gospel Chapel. Eventually the group asked for assistance from the West Coast Children's Mission (WCCM), and Aaron Schmidt was sent in response to provide pastoral leadership. The group, comprised of people from eight denominational backgrounds, was divided over whether or not they should affiliate with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. In 1956 a WCCM mission church was established with 25 members but the group did not officially join the Mennonite Brethren. Schmidt served until 1960, when he left for Kitimat. In May 1961 a vote regarding denominational affiliation was taken, but no group received the required two-thirds majority (the Associated Gospel Church received the most votes).

In April 1962 WCCM support was withdrawn and those from the chapel who wished to affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren helped to form the Terrace Mennonite Brethren Church in 1963, while those who remained in Terrace Gospel Chapel joined the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. The first building was occupied in 1963. The congregation withdrew from conference in 1981.
