The Bhutanese Nepali Church of Lancaster began as a house church in 2009, composed of recent Nepali refugees. The Lancaster Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA recognized the church on 1 January 2010. The founding pastor, Shankar Rai, initially connected with Mennonites through a refugee friend sponsored by the Mountville Mennonite Church. He resonated with Mennonite beliefs on adult baptism and trinitarian God.

The group met at the West End Mennonite Fellowship in downtown Lancaster, with 50-70 persons participating. In 2024, the congregation still met at the West End church on Sunday afternoons.
