Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Shalom (Tampa, Florida, USA)
The Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Shalom (Shalom Evangelical Mennonite Church) congregation in Tampa, Florida, USA was established in 2019. The congregation started as a Spanish-speaking church plant on 26 May 2019, led by Pastor Secundino Casas and his wife, Jesenia. Initially, services were held in homes. By 2020 the congregation of 20-25 persons met in the facilities of the College Hill Mennonite Church. The two congregations have shared service opportunities, like weekly community food, clothes, and toy distribution for those in need in Tampa.
Initially, the congregation was part of the Southeast Mennonite Conference, but that regional conference withdrew from Mennonite Church USA to become a district of LMC (Lancaster Mennonite Conference). Iglesia Evangélica Menonita Shalom, along with seven other congregations, chose to affiliate with the Mosaic Mennonite Conference that remained part of Mennonite Church USA.
