Cold Spring Mennonite Church (Abbeville, South Carolina, USA)
The Cold Spring Mennonite Church in Cold Springs, South Carolina, USA was established in 1969.
The congregation started when families from the Kempsville Amish Mennonite Church near Virginia Beach, Virginia became concerned about the rapid urbanization around them, with increasing land prices, tax hikes, and social problems. Eight families searched for a rural alternative and found it in Abbeville, South Carolina.
During the exploration phase, four men in the group were in an auto accident, which killed prominent bishop, Budget columnist, and Amish Mennonite Aid secretary/treasurer, Jake Hershberger.
Norman Swartzentruber was the only minister to move with the group. In 1978, Andrew Hershberger was ordained bishop. The other man in the lot at the time, Ernest Hochstetler, was later ordained bishop in 1991.
In 2017 the church was a member of the Beachy Amish Mennonite Fellowship and had a membership of 150. The bishop was Merl Beiler, and the ministers were Wayne Nisly and Steve Swartzentruber.
