Friends Community Church in Carman, Manitoba began services on 4 January 2004 after Carman Gospel Light Church closed in April 2003. Dale and Marge Warkentin planted the church with support from the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba. Local Mennonite Brethren congregations in Winkler, Elm Creek, and Newton also provided assistance and support to the new congregation.

To encourage interaction, the people who attend services at Friends are seated around tables, rather than in traditional pews.

In 2012 the average Sunday morning attendance was between 70 and 100.
