Podusilna (Lviv Oblast, Ukraine)
Podusilna, a former Mennonite congregation in Galicia, located 15 miles southeast of Przemysl. It was one of the later settlements that developed out of the original settlement in 1789.
In 1872 several families settled here, followed by others in the following spring. Among the most common names were Bachmann, Brubacher, Ewy, Hubin, Müller, and Rupp. Jakob Müller was the first elder, ordained on 8 July 1877, died 25 January 1878. He was followed in office by Peter Bachmann, chosen to the ministry in 1878 and as elder in 1897, died in 1901. In 1881 many of the families immigrated to America. In 1909, as a result of a general reorganization of the Galician Mennonites, the "Christliche mennonitische Gemeinde Kiernica- Lemberg" was organized, which incorporated all the earlier organized groups. During World War II the Mennonites left Galicia, most of them to settle temporarily in the Warthegau. In 1945 they fled to West Germany. Finally most of them immigrated to Uruguay, although a few got to Canada.
