Koinonia Worship Centre was originally an independent congregation, established in 1997 by Dan and Carol Sileshi. Dan had become a Christian through the Meserete Kristos Church (Mennonite Church in Ethiopia) and served for a number of years as a pastor and teacher in Nigeria before moving to Canada in 1996. In 2001 the congregation had 100 attending representing 20 different ethnic groups, worshiping in the English language. At that time the Canadian Mennonite Brethren Conference Board of Evangelism appointed Sileshi to be a church planter under "Love Toronto," its Key City Initiative. The congregation joined the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches in February 2002. The church also has an Amharic congregation pastored by Simeon T. Demeke which ministers to the Ethiopian community in Toronto.

The church moved into a building in Ajax, Ontario in 2010 and changed its name to The Access Centre.
