Jehan de la Beecke (d. 1558)
Jehan de la Beecke, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake on 15 October 1558 at Bruges Belgium after having been strangled. Jehan was born at Komen (Commines) in Flanders and had married at Wervik. By trade he was a mutsenscheerdere, but when he was unemployed he worked on farms. He was 24 years of age; in 1557 he had been (re) baptized. He was put to death with Pauwels Vermaete, Martin van de Walk, and Hansken van den Broecke. A man called Jan van de Beke from Komen, burned at the stake at Ghent in March 1557 because of heresy (Verheyden, Gent, 23, No. 46), may have been a relative of Jehan de la Beecke.
