De Zondagsbode, a Dutch Mennonite weekly, appeared from 6 November 1887, until 21 June 1942, when it was suppressed by the German military forces then occupying the Netherlands. The 1887-94 issues bear the title De Zondagsbode, weekblad in Doopsgezinde en verwante Christelijke gemeenten; it was then much read by the Dutch Baptists and contained news from Baptist congregations. From 7 November 1926, it was the official organ of the Algemeene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit. It was born from an idea launched by S. de Waard at the 1886 yearly meeting of the Zwolsche Vereeniging. The 1887 meeting of this association appointed a committee to promote a weekly, which was published in the fall of that year with H. Koekebakker Jr, Samuel Cramer, and L. Hesta as editors. The next issue was edited by Koekebakker alone, who was the editor until his death in October 1890. Thereupon G. ten Gate was the editor (October 1890-October 1894), followed by P. Feenstra Jr (October 1894-April 1916), J. Wuite (May 1916-1930), and W. Koekebakker (1930-1942). Its successor was the Algemeen Doopsgezind Weekblad, started in 1948.
