Horton, Rhondo D. (1895-1986)
Rhondo D. Horton was born in 1895 to parents who had been slaves to the Horton family in Caldwell County, NC. He received his high school education in the Elk Park High School begun by the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren conference and Peter Siemens in 1927. Horton was ordained in the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren church in 1933. He continued as part-time minister and business man until his retirement in 1972. He was known for his well prepared sermons, his leadership of the conference and his wise advice. In the Boone, NC, community he served as a major leader in peaceful change in race relations. Rhondo Horton died 23 June 1986.
