Wenger, Adah Frances Good Burkhalter (1889-1985)

Born 23 September 1889 at Elida, Ohio, Adah Good graduated from Bluffton Academy in 1918. She married Noah L. Burkhalter on 6 August 1918. She served as a missionary (General Conference Mennonite) and Bible teacher in India, 1919-1952. Noah died in India, 1920, two months before the birth of their son Lawrence. Adah Burkhalter’s study leave in the United States, 1922-1925, led to a BTh degree from Witmarsum Seminary, Bluffton, Ohio, in 1925. She returned to India with her son in 1925. On 3 March 1926 she married Paul A. Wenger. She helped with evangelistic work in four areas, including 19 years at Korba, Madhya Pradesh. She was hostess at the Mennonite Mission Center, Chicago, 1953-1957. After Paul Wenger’s death she lived at Greencroft Center, Goshen, IN where she died 4 January 1985. Adah loved music, wrote poetry, and composed poems for scrapbooks for each of five grandchildren. She enjoyed six great-grandchildren.
