Johannes Faber (Fabri), of Heilbronn, Germany, was a Dominican and polemic-ascetic author, canon at Augsburg, author of the book Christenliche undterweisung an die Widertauffer von dem Tauff der Jungen Kindlein. Und von der Gaistlichen und weltlichen Oberkait an die Widertauffer (Ingolstadt, 1550), which violently attacks the Anabaptists. He also wrote the pamphlet: Von dem Ayd Schwören. Auch von der Wiedertauffer Marter. Und woher es entspringe, dass sie also fröhlich und getröst die pein des Tods leiden. Und von der Gemeinschaft der Wiedertäufer (Augsburg, 1550), in which he involuntarily gives them great praise when he says, "Whence does it come that the Anabaptists so joyfully and confidently suffer the pain of death? They dance and jump into the flames, see the flashing sword without dismay, speak and preach to the spectators with laughing mouth; they sing psalms and hymns until their soul departs, they die with joy, as if they were in a merry  company, remain strong, confident and steadfast until their death. Persisting defiantly in their intention, they also defy all pain and torture." Faber explains this phenomenon as the work of hell's dragon. Copies of the 1550 booklets are in the Mennonite Historical Library, Goshen, Indiana.
