Pieter Willemsz was a follower and friend of the Dutch elder Jan Jacobsz. He lived at Hoorn; Jan Jacobsz, after his banishment from Friesland on 13 April 1600, found shelter in his home. He accompanied Jan Jacobsz on his tours of baptism and after the death of Jacobsz he published his songs under the title Eenighe Gheestelijcke Liedekens, gemackt aen verscheyden persoonen door Jan Jacobs zoon van Harlinghen (Amsterdam, 1612). He also published a songbook entitled Eenighe Nieuwe Gheestelijcke Liedekens gemaeckt door verscheyden persoonen . . . (Amsterdam, 1612), containing 36 songs, most of which were composed by Pieter Willemsz himself. (Obviously the year 1612 on the title page is an error, because at the end of the book the note is found: "Gedruct bij Nicolaes Biestkens in de Lelye onder de Doornen, Anno1613" and the last song is dated 21 December 1612.) Pieter Willemsz who later probably became an elder of the Jans-Jacobsz group, also visited "our friends in Prussia." It is, however, not known which Prussian congregations belonged to the Jan-Jacobsz group. Years of birth (ca. 1560) and death and other particulars about Pieter Willemsz were not available.
